The design for the beachfront housing in Ixtapa begins through a reinterpretation of Mexico’s pre-Columbian coastal figurations, offering a contemporary homage to ancient principles while embracing the beauty of its natural surroundings. The design draws from the timelessness of ancient forms, incorporating elements like stepped terraces, primitive masses, open courtyards, and layered geometries. The use of green concrete dialogues with the rugged coastal landscape, blending with the earth-toned cliffs and the lush flora.
The apartment units are designed with multiple terraces, each one oriented to optimize views of the Pacific Ocean and the dramatic coastline. The plan layouts blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing residents to immerse themselves under shade, in the natural beauty of the site, offering panoramic vistas and constant connection to sea. Every unit is positioned to maximize cross-ventilation and harness natural light, creating sun protected yet fresh interiors. The coastal winds and sunlight are not just passive elements but active in the experience of the project, providing comfort and reducing the need for mechanical climate control. The careful positioning of each unit optimizes privacy, while still allowing for a communal experience of the surrounding landscape and ocean. The architecture intends to create a retreat by the sea—temple-like, contemplative in atmosphere, yet contemporary in its luxurious amenities, offering residents a balance of historical reverence and modern comfort.
